G gauge / Garden Railways.

This page last updated 29 Jun 2009.

Hobbies Plus has been selling G gauge trains for nearly 20 years. Although most items are ordered in for customer requests, we do keep a number of items in stock and shall gradually expand this range to meet growing demand.

G gauge is ideal for outdoor use and is designed to work in a garden environment. LGB track can be walked on without damage, and locomotives have enclosed mechanisms to keep them safe from the elements.

We sell the German made LGB range of European and American trains and also the Chinese built Bachmann range of USA prototype models.

Lehmann G gauge train in our window display.
INTERESTING TRIVIA NOTE: The track length of this layout is 4.4metres. The average number of laps is 4.5 per minute.
This means the train travels approximately 1.2km per hour. As the train runs whenever we are open (only 4 days a week), it averages just over 30km per week or about 1600km per year.
This little locomotive has now travelled in excess of 3000km and apart from very occasional cleaning and oiling, has not needed any maintenance or replacement parts. You too can expect this kind of reliability from LGB trains.

Please note that Hobbies Plus is a small shop. In order to try and keep a larger variety of items in stock, it is often necessary to keep only small numbers of many items. So, in many cases, we may only have one or two of a particular item in stock. We shall endeavour to remove items no longer in stock from these lists as soon as practical unless it is likely the item/s will be back in stock very soon.

The LGB Continental Classic train set. Easily the most remarkable model set ever to pass through our doors. It is believed only two came to Australia.

Closer look at the LGB Continental classic set. It came in a wooden box (it's own display cabinet really) on casters and with a perspex front. The polystyrene insert could be discarded and replaced by the wooden shelves it is sitting on.

We don't have this one in stock now, but you'll generally find a selection of other, more affordable, G gauge sets to choose from.
